No Smoking

The signs are finally going up in Michigan's bars, restaurants, and nightclubs (oddly, not the casinos) that I'm sure every smoker dreads, but I couldn't be happier to see.  The Michigan House of Representatives passed a measure for smoke-free workplaces back in May 2008, however, it took another year for the measure to get really ironed out sending it to the Michigan Senate.  When it passed The House, "The proposed ban...would apply to nearly all indoor workplaces in Michigan, including bars and restaurants.  Cigar bars, tobacco specialty shops and the gaming floors of Detroit's three commercial casinos would be the lone exceptions..."

Despite the lobbyist (obviously, the bars, restaurants, and smokers themselves), the Senate approved the measure in December 2009 and that brings us to May 1, 2010 Smokefree Michigan, a new chapter for bars, restaurants, and workplaces!
