Colin Hay at The Ark

Coming straight off my road trips to Chicago, I ventured out to Ann Arbor on a week night to meet up with my "mate" Julie to see the first of what I expected were two incredible performances by Colin Hay at The Ark. If that names doesn't ring a bell to you, maybe some of these videos I found on YouTube from his performance of Down Under and Overkill will. If not, well, fine, he's from the well-known Australian band, Men at Work.

Hay churned out quite a few covers from his former band, his most popular solo tunes, and a few more mellow tunes from his latest release.  The show really centered around Hay telling stories through music and well, his stories.  It reminded me of a MTV Unplugged session where the musicians take it down a notch or two, crack a few jokes, and get very personal with the audience.  Julie and I were captivated for the entire hour and half or so that he played, talked, and sipped on his water in almost complete darkness, which I believe he remarked about.  We heard stories about his father, his former band mates, life on the road, and a detailed description of the word "chunder".  Great show, great guy, great venue, and even better company.  Thanks for coming out with me, Julie!

Post-show, I met up with Scottie (post-class) for some late-night food over at Jolly Pumpkin!
