Siam Spicy

Our quest for decent Asian food in Metro Detroit (and even in Detroit itself) continues, but we rediscovered some as their signage reveals "authentic thai cuisine" after venturing out for a quick Friday night dinner to Siam Spicy in Royal Oak.  Well, it's certainly not up to the Cozy's standards from our days in Chicago, it does pack a mean spice.

I stuck with my new standard, Pad See Ew with Tofu and Scottie opted for the Lard Na with Chicken.  Within maybe 10-15 minutes, our meals were served, which is pretty standard for Asian fare, but it's always nice to have that quick of turnaround and it actually taste like they spent some time preparing it and not microwaving it from last night.  They have a fair warning about their spice levels: "Very Mild", "Mild", "Mild Plus", "Medium", "Medium Plus", "Spicy", I still went with the "Medium", but in retrospect, I shouldn't have been so bold.  It certainly made me savor every bit of water in glass and wonder if it weren't for it being 5 degrees outside, would I have broken into a sweat?  No doubt.

The only complaint about these meals is that they came with Asian or Chinese broccoli, which was more like a Spinach texture with a stem rather than the flower-shape that were used to plus the amount of broccoli in each dish was at about a 1 to 4 ratio with the amount of noodles.  At least they didn't skimp on the tofu.

Since I've only had Sy Thai once (and it was so unmemorable that I didn't blog it) and never tried New Bangkok Thai Bistro (but Scottie gives it two thumbs down), if you're willing to take a short drive down Woodward to dine in (or carryout!) at the modest, nondescript (they're always the best!) Asian restaurant, you'll certainly be rewarded with something unique and full of flavor at Siam Spicy.
