Clubhouse BFD is really a craft beer bar tucked away in the suburbs of Detroit (albeit off a major Michigan highway, M-59) that happens to serves food in an atmosphere featuring a number of oddball sports touches, from fishing waders to ping-pong beer sampler paddle trays, and even some fun beer signage (the Schlitz globe is classic!). The draft beer list is long, constantly updated (you have to follow their twitter or facebook to see what's tapping next), and genuinely the best we've seen in the area. They keep at least 15 taps filled with Michigan beer, giving the other 20 or so taps away to some pretty popular national and international breweries. They always seem to have something unique on tap, and Jason knows how to usurp the really good stuff.
Scottie and I were able to get through 2.5 paddles of 4oz. samplers, so we'd call that a victory despite the boring football game. We also yapped it up with Jason and Bubs. While I typically posted our beer ratings, I've migrated now to the Untappd app that Scottie uses, so I'm hoping you can see my ratings. It's actually much easier than trying to create my beer ratings chart. But I will give you my winners for the evening, in no particular order:
- Atwater's Shamen's Porter
- Stone Imperial Russian Stout
- Atwater Blueberry Cobbler
- Sierra Nevada 30th Anniversary Fritz & Ken's Ale
- Sierra Nevada 30th Anniversary Charlie & Ken's Lager
UPDATED February 9, 2013: Congratulations to Clubhouse BFD for making America's 100 best beer bars according to Draft Magazine!
