After spending much of May away from Michigan, you'd think we would take more than a weekend to recover, but Scottie and I are off again to the Detroit Metro Airport heading to Scottie's hometown, Matawan, New Jersey, to attend a wedding and enjoy some family time!
We flew in Thursday evening, picked up some very large slices of pizza, and spent the rest of the evening enjoying a drink or two of sake with Scottie's Dad.
Friday, we started the day off with a hearty breakfast prepared by Mr. Lee of "mandoo" (in this case, they were boiled vegetarian/meat dumplings) and some various other "banchan" (Korean side dishes), which just cracked me up because as Scottie has told me, Koreans don't really do the whole breakfast cereal, toast/bagel, yogurt thing like us Americans. But I was perfectly content since "mandoo" are definitely high on my Korean favorites list!
After breakfast, we took Mr. Lee out for a round 18 holes at the county golf course! For me, the day started off iffy, then I hit some nice balls, but my the time we hit the back 9, I was done. It was a long outing for me since I'm used to just playing 9. I was rewarded though by a nice finish and post-golf lunch at a Chinese restaurant that Scottie and his Dad frequent (next door to their old store!).
Scottie and I cleaned up, took some obligatory (by me!) pictures outside next to Mr. Lee's handiwork in the garden, and then headed off to Holmdel Park for Christine and Brian's wedding! The ceremony was held under one of the picnic areas with a lot of greenery surrounding the area. We loved that the seating area was as casual as the setting, and I'd say, the couple! It was a beautiful backdrop and lovely (and short!) ceremony. Of course, the real fun happened post-ceremony as we enjoyed an awesome, and tasty buffet plus a whole lot of dancing! Congratulations Christine and Brian!
On Saturday, we enjoyed a morning of rest banking some sleep that we missed out on in May before heading to the closest Jersey diner from some sustenance. Scottie also managed to talk me into perusing the new Jersey Shore Premium Outlets. If you know us, he wears the purse in the family, but I'm not too far behind.
We spent a fun evening back home for a family gathering over Korean BBQ, Lee style! Mr. Lee prepared the meat and all the fixings, his Uncle, Aunt, and cousins brought over the dessert, and Bode, Cindy, and Brady came prepared with the entertainment (and Yuengling!).
On our way out Sunday, we hit up one of Scottie's classics pit stops (and my favorites), Eli's Hot Bagels. These are how bagels should taste! Yummy! More pictures from the fun trip home in my photo album!
