Seoul - Day 13

On our last day in Seoul, we spent the morning getting downtown to eat lunch.  Then, spent some timing strolling through the streets and markets of Seoul near Dongnimmun.  We even walked by Cheonggye Plaza where we saw the fountains at night on our second day in Seoul.

We walked by a lot of vendors on the streets, but it was interesting to see because each vendor had a very small storefront with their own specialty.  The absence of big box was very apparent around here.

It didn't take long though for Scottie's parents to want a snack, so we stopped in a market area to find this whole in the wall restaurant that served only one item: Bindaetteok.  It was made of ground mung beans with green onions, bean sprouts, and kimchi pancake.  It was their specialty and I could taste why.  We plowed through two large pancakes each and topped that off with a little homemade makgeolli.

After, we spent some time walking through this market area.  Back on the streets, we found the above orange/yellow fruits called Chamwoae.  It was a fruit that we ate almost everyday (if Scottie's Mom was willing to slice it up for us).  It was a melon of some sort but seemed like a cross between the texture of a pear with the taste of a banana.  We were told to eat the seeds in the middle as well.

We made a trip to the Korean grocery store inside the mall to pick up some "gifts" and then headed back near Scottie's parents condo for our last meal.  The first round included some sort of pork Korean BBQ.  Then we moved onto the Samgyeopsal.  It is 3 layered thin sliced pork: meat, fat, meat. But I kind of think this is fat, meat, fat.

Our last breakfast included the last of our Starbucks coffee that we brought, the dduk we just purchased, fresh strawberries, pears, and rolls.  It was a wonderful trip and experience of my lifetime, and I am already excited for the return visit.  Thanks to the Lee's for such a wonderful time!

  1. I've really enjoyed your Seoul series. I felt like I was right there with you. I wish I had done something like this for Australia.

  2. Thanks! It was an incredible time. I wrote up a lot of these posts on the 13 hour or so plane ride back but then I had to go back and clean them up. It took forever but I'm sure it will be worth it in retrospect. I can't wait to plan a trip to Australia. That's high on our list!
