Buddy's Pizza lays claim to Detroit's #1 square deep dish pizza, so tonight we finally took the plunge or challenge to decide just how good this pizza is. Conveniently, there is a location on the border Royal Oak and Birmingham just north of 13 mile and Woodward Avenue; however, this was a take-out only, so Scottie and I spent a rare Friday evening at home...eating pizza! Read more about Buddy's history here.
We ordered the Florine Mark, which included brick/fat free cheese blend, spinach, mushrooms, diced tomato, and black olives. While waiting for the pizza to bake, we noted that Buddy's dough is made from scratch daily in each of their kitchens and their cheese is made especially for Buddy's in Wisconsin hand-shredded for the perfect melt!
And the verdict was this was some darn good pizza. Since we can't say for sure whether it's Detroit's #1, we can say that the dough, sauce, and ingredients were perfectly balanced. No greasy mess, which is always a plus in my mind and we were able to easily polish off the entire pie!
Buddy's Pizza IS pretty good!
