While we attempted to meet up with some Chicago visitors, Christina and Aaron, downtown Detroit at our favorite Italian spot, Angelina Italian Bistro, the line was practically out the door and the wait was anybody's guess. I suppose we probably should have timed the conclusion of the Tigers game a little better, but oh well. Instead, we opted for the off-the-beaten path, Taste Pizzabar, that we enjoyed awhile back.
While I think my review is practically the same, I did fail to mention an amusing conversation that we had the first time with our waiter, and since it pretty much went down the same way this time (again, with the same waiter), I figured I'd officially document it. If Taste does any sort of searching on reviews written about their restaurant, hopefully, they can remedy this dire situation!
Our waiter approached the table requesting our drink orders, and as traditionally I do, I inquired about the beer selection since the menu lacked these details. Who doesn't like a good beer with their pizza, right? Well, the waiter looks down, then looks up with sort of a confused face, and responds with a lot of "uh's" and "um's" and I think he came up with Miller Lite, Amstel Light, Labatt Blue, and a few other assorted traditional beers concluding with "and a few others". Then, again, as I typically ask, "Do you have any microbrewery beers?" Because, let's be honest, that's really what my whole first question was about, but I always forget to clarify. Another look of confusion from our waiter as if to say, what the heck is this "chick" talking about and why doesn't she just order some cocktail like all the other ladies. He responds with something like "Maybe, but I'd have to go look in the bar."
When we walked up the stairs to Taste Pizzabar, we all noticed a microbrewery beer special (at this time, it escapes me which beer), so Aaron pointed that out to the gentleman, who still looked perplexed as if to say there wasn't really a special going on or at least that he was made aware. Our waiter returns to the table though after a few minutes delighted to have a microbrewery beer on the list to share with us, "Yes, we have Heinken!" We all look at each other with the "Are you kidding me?" face and I am not even sure what I ordered at that point. Here's the kicker, a few minutes later, I noticed our good friends, Julie and Al sitting at a table nearby, and they recalled pretty much the same exact story to us. Good times.
After dinner, we left our friends as they headed to the Frozen Four games and we drove up to Partridge Creek in Clinton Township to see Hot Tub Time Machine! Now the only point of telling you this is that we went to the MJR Theatres there, and we've been a couple of times now, and I always noticed the random clapping going on during their opening theatre theme song. I thought it was just part of the theme song, but this time, I noticed that people were actually clapping along with the tune. I turned to Scottie with a look of did you just hear that? And he says, oh yes, that's what people do here. Wow. And sure enough, people do, read more about it here.
haha major props for remembering so many details.
