It's been over a year since our first visit to Đà Nẵng Restaurant during their inaugural year and actually just a few weeks after their opening. At the time, we had a wonderful dining experience just giddy that there was an authentic Vietnamese restaurant opening within a few miles of Birmingham. It's been quite the chore for us to find diverse restaurants in the area, so when we spot one that looks to be the real thing, we make a point to give it taste.
A few months ago, when I flipped through some of my Google Analytics for Life in Birmingham, I noticed that Đà Nẵng added my recap of our experience under their review section on their web site. As flattered as I was, I have to admit, we haven't been back for a second taste. After reading this recent review in Hour Detroit Magazine about the restaurant, I am pleased to hear the menu has been tweaked a bit to include some vegetarian offerings like tofu (which I love to have in my pho, but I'm sure that's probably not authentic!) and a shrimp pho dish (which intrigues the shrimp-loving side of me!). Not to mention some of the appetizers described in the review sound good enough to be a meal!
Best of all, the article described the history and background to the opening of the restaurant, which is another excellent Michigan / Detroit Metro story for the books. I think this calls for a visit, so I'll be out there soon for my second tasting! Cheers to them!
I've been wanting to try Da Nang for the past year. Glad you enjoyed it, I can't wait to go.
